Mashed Names Duke's a Best Mayo Brand for Quality Ingredients

In March 2024, Mashed went looking for the mayonnaise brands with the best ingredients, judging on minimal additives and sourcing standards. Duke's made the list of 11.

Part of what earned the spot is what the jar leaves out. Duke's Real Mayonnaise has no added sugar. It follows the recipe Eugenia Duke created in 1917.

What goes in is a short list: soybean oil, egg yolks, water, distilled and cider vinegar, salt, oleoresin paprika, natural flavors, and calcium disodium EDTA to protect flavor. The two vinegars are where the twang comes from. The paprika gives Duke's its color.

Mashed's verdict: the ingredients are good enough that the mayo doesn't need the sugar. We agree.
